WITH A SERIES OF DRAMATIC DESIGN FLOURISHES, SOL WASSERMUHL AND PAGE & STEELE IBI GROUP ARCHITECTS CREATE A CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURAL MASTERWORK
Chaz is an urbane condominium soaring forty-seven storeys. The building features an elegant five-storey limestone-clad podium with a series of recessed windows that create a distinct dramatic look. Stepping back from the podium, the tower’s sleek aerodynamic shape gives it propulsion, and other elements add energy and elegance to the overall design. Exposed columns on the exterior of Chaz’s tower create a series of dazzling and landmark-worthy gestures on the building’s skin. Unlike other condominiums with balconies tacked onto the building, at Chaz they’re an integral part of the exterior, recessed into the alcoves created by this unique shape.
The architectural “pièce de résistance” is a two-storey cantilevered box framed in white concrete on the thirty-sixth and thirty-seventh levels, and will be illuminated at night. This is the Residents’ Private Chaz Club, a resident’s-only social lounge and 5-star dining space. From miles around, Torontonians will look up and see residents and their guests enjoying cocktails on the club’s terrace or relaxing inside this glass box in the sky.
